About Us

Island Tradition Federal Credit Union was founded in 1937 as Libhouse Employees Federal Credit Union to serve employees of Liberty House, a department and specialty store chain with locations throughout the Hawaiian Islands and on Guam. After Liberty House was purchased by the national chain Federated Department Stores, the credit union was renamed Island Tradition Federal Credit Union, and now serves employees of Macy’s stores throughout the state of Hawaii and Guam.

Like many other credit unions, Island Tradition Federal Credit Union was founded at a time when the nation’s financial system was still reeling from the Great Depression, and most banks simply did not address the concerns of working people.

Joining together in common interest, the credit union’s founders wanted to provide for the financial needs of their families, friends and co-workers. Since then, Island Tradition Federal Credit Union has continued to work tirelessly on behalf of our members, adapting and modernizing as necessary, but always guided by the spirit of service rather than the promise of profit.

As a credit union member, you’re in good company. There are approximately 8,600 credit unions in the U.S., with more than 85 million members and deposits totaling more than $600 billion. Island Tradition Federal Credit Union is run by a professional manager, who is overseen by a volunteer board of directors elected by members. Any member can run for office, and every member gets to vote.

It is our privilege and pleasure to continue to serve Macy’s employees in Hawaii and Guam as we have served retail workers throughout the state for seven decades. Credit union membership is also open to the immediate family members including spouses, children, grandchildren, parents and grandparents.
